PARTICIPATING IN JOURNALISM
At Women Make News, you the reader participate in the journalism. We welcome blog posts and editorials from all women. Of course, it’s impossible to pass on all the secrets of journalism, but here are some basic principles for citizen or participatory journalism.
GET IT RIGHT – Strive for accuracy in anything you write. Get the facts and then cite them. If in doubt, don’t write it down.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK – When addressing an issue or question, try to be as thorough as possible. Do some work, then do a little more. Interview a few different people.
BE FAIR – Try to present both sides of an argument, even if you disagree
BE CLEAR – If you have any affiliation to something about which you are posting, please disclose it.
