Sarah Palin gets Bad Grades from American Women
She may or may not get elected, but Sarah Palin is about to flunk out.
When asked to grade Governor Palin, many American women gave her an F. Lots of F's.
Readers of this site evaluated the Vice Presidential candidate --generously giving their woman hours to do so. She was supposed to appeal to women--but that may not work out as planned.
Subject | Grade | Comments |
Mother | F | During her last high-risk pregnancy, she took a 7 hour plane ride after her water had broken. |
Moose hunter | F | Allow aerial hunting of wolves, but not moose. |
Woman's Advocate | F | Vetoed funding for breast-pumps for a WIC program as Governor and did not fix the pay as you go rape kits as Mayor. |
Fiscal Conservative | F | Alaska has highest federal spending per capita or 13,000 in 2006-or 9.25 billion total. |
Foreign Policy | F | Did not recognize the Bush Doctrine, still needs to be quizzed on the Monroe doctrine. |
Evangelical Christian | B | Palin has said that creationism should be taught in schools, believes in abstinence sex ed, has cited God's will in speeches and has prayed publicly for a pipeline. |
Maverick | F | Palin and her staff use personal emails for state business to avoid future subpoenas. |
Working Mom | D | Does not protect her children's privacy but seems to use them for politcal gain |
Life Partner | Pass | Readers did not agree: nearly equal numbers thought she deserved grades A-F: her relationship is equitable, she's stayed married, she and her partner co-own businesses, she took his name and he is not her social or professional equal. |
Friend to Big Oil | A | Promotes drilling in ANWR |
Hockey Mom | A | While her son played the sport, she got a hockey rink built in her town. Not many moms can do THAT! |
The areas received better ratings: readers felt she deserved a D as a working mother. A B for status as an evangelical Christian.
Readers were pretty much in agreement about the grades-. However, in just one area, women couldn't agree how to rate Palin: as a life partner. She received a nearly equal number of As, Bs, Cs, Ds, and Fs. This shows perhaps how fraught the area of wifedom is in the 21st century.
There were areas in which Palin excelled. Hockey and energy. Readers felt Palin deserved an A for being a Friend to Big Oil and another A for being a Hockey Mom.
Really, how many other women whose kid plays actually manage to get a multimillion dollar rink built in their town?
